Female drivers no longer receive a discount on their car insurance because they are women. This week, Allianz was the last major insurer to stop giving this discount. This is the conclusion reached by the independent comparator Good Finance. Women received a discount because they are better drivers.
Least car damage
Research from the Center for Insurance Statistics (CFS) last month shows that women between the ages of 28 and 40 suffer the least damage. Only female drivers between the ages of 51 and 60 cause on average more damage per incident than their male peers.
Most car damage
The most damage is caused by men between the ages of 18 and 20. One in four young men makes damage to third parties. Among women in this age category, that is one in eight. The extent of the damage is also significantly higher among young men than among female peers.
Equal Treatment Act
European directive 113 from 2004 prohibits women from being rewarded for their driving behavior. After December 21, 2007, insurers and other providers of financial services may no longer make a distinction between men and women in premiums and benefits. Although this directive has been in the Equal Treatment Act for several months, not every insurer had adjusted its policy conditions. In addition to Allianz, EAG and Verzekeruzelf.nl also gave women a discount to women until recently.
Women will no longer pay
By abolishing the discount women will no longer automatically pay. The premiums have fallen by an average of 15% in the past year. Not all insurers also gave women a discount. Car premiums depend on many factors. Damage-free years, age and zip code in particular have an impact on the premium. Despite the premium war, the differences in premiums remain large. For the same coverage, the difference between the most expensive and cheapest car insurance is on average more than 100%.
